Council Meetings
Council meetings are open to the public wherever possible.
The agenda allows for the meeting to adjourn for fifteen minutes for the public to participate. If you wish to speak at a council meeting or have a question to address to the council please do so in writing by close of business on the Friday prior to the meeting. Please give as much information as you can if you would like an answer during the meeting. It may not always be possible to answer questions at the meeting and if this is the case you will receive a response in writing from the Parish Clerk after the meeting.
Aylesham operates a committee system where it delegates its functions to various committees in order to expedite the business of the council.
The Full Council meets once a month, with the exception of December when the Council is in recess. Full Council has the overall authority on the business of the Council.
The Finance, Audit and Personnel Committee meets quarterly. Its primary purpose is to manage the Council's financial resources, Audit and Personnel matters.
The Planning, Environment and Transport Committee (including Aylesham Development) meets monthly and considers responses to planning applications and responds to the local planning authority with the views of the corporate body. The Committee also recommends strategy and action on any matters related to the general environment, and Transport matters of the Parish.
The Recreational & Facilities Committee meets monthly and its primary purpose is to manage the leased play areas, and Market Square for the Council. They oversee any Council events and each year they have a budget to spend on improving these recreational areas and facilities in the Parish.
Each year the Council approves its 'Standing Orders'. These are the rules that the council must abide by and prescribes how the council will transact its business.
